In 2003 Dr Lynne Lane established Affordable Healthcare Limited with the goal of bringing low-cost, quality generic medicines to New Zealand to generate significant savings for PHARMAC, that can be reallocated to address unmet needs for health care. It was this vision that lead to her travelling to India to make contact with Dr Reddy's which had a similar vision.
The first major steps have been made in bringing that shared vision to life:
- Affordable Healthcare officially changes its name to Dr Reddy's. This new identity recognises the strength and diversity that Dr Reddy's offers to the New Zealand market.
- Dr Reddy's omeprazole received sole supply status from May 1st 2009 which is estimated to save PHARMAC significant funds that can be reinvested in addressing unmet health care needs.
- A significant pipeline of new products for New Zealand is planned with many dossiers currently submitted to MEDSAFE.
